How to Choose the Perfect Venue Size for Your Guest Count
Finding the perfect venue is a balancing act. If the room is too large, the event will feel empty and lack energy. If it is too small, your guests will feel cramped and uncomfortable.
Here is the basic space planning math used by event professionals:
• Standing Reception: Allocate 10 to 12 square feet per guest.
• Theater Style Seating: Allocate 12 to 15 square feet per guest.
• Banquet/Dinner Seating (Round Tables): Allocate 15 to 18 square feet per guest.
Make sure you account for production space as well. A stage, dance floor, buffet line, and DJ booth will easily take up an extra 500 to 1,000 square feet. Always ask the venue manager for a dimensioned floor plan before booking.
